BACK TO SCHOOL DESPITE COVID-19

A lot of parents are still finding it very difficult to decide if they really want their kids to resume back to school or continue at home with virtual learning.

Despite the fear of exposure and uncertainty, parents are relieved to know that things will gradually get back to normal as preparations are being put in place by schools and teachers to secure our children's well being.

Tips for parents to prepare their wards prior to resumption

- Attach positive meaning to the pandemic

Talk with your kids and get to know their fears and worries from the little knowledge they have of the pandemic. Make them see that this is just a phase and it will pass and also throw emphasis on the good times you all have had together and how you have bonded well so far.

- Reinforce the every day precautions

Do your kids know the signs/symptoms of Covid 19? Are they aware of the daily precautions of keeping a safe distance, washing and sanitizing and wearing a mask? Knowledge is key and this will empower them and keep them safe.

- Make the best out of the situation

This can be achieved by buying them colorful masks, teaching them how to breathe properly using these masks/ shield and mimicking comical characters with their masks.

Tips for schools/ care-givers/ Teachers

- What level of cleaning/ Fumigation services have been put in place?

What changes have been made to classrooms, hallways, cafeterias and buses to ensure social distancing?

-Will hand-washing opportunities be frequent and hand sanitizer readily available?

- Are the desks well spaced and facing the same direction?

- Are these schools practicing the basic principles? (Cancelling assemblies, sports games and other events that create crowded conditions. Sick students, teachers and other staff should not come to school. Schools should enforce regular hand washing with safe water and soap, alcohol based sanitizer or chlorine solution and, at a minimum, daily disinfection and cleaning of school surfaces.)

Now to the question of the day.

DO YOU THINK CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR FACE MASKS? IF SO, AT WHAT AGE AND HOW DO WE CATER FOR THOSE IN CRECHE AND PLAY GROUP WHO CANT?
